NSW: Polling booths open in Tamworth
Polling booths are opening in the New South Wales seat of Tamworth -- where about 40,000
people are expected to vote in the state by-election today.
The by-election has been brought on by the resignation of Independent TONY WINDSOR
-- who won the seat of New England in last month's federal election.
Today's contest is shaping up as a showdown between National Party candidate JOHN CULL
and Independent JAMES TRELOAR -- who is currently the town mayor.
Preferences will be crucial to the outcome with Mr TRELOAR receiving preferences from
Labor while Mr CULL will receive preferences from another independent, WARREN WOODLEY.
