SA: Rann vows to push ahead with constitutional reform
South Australian Premier MIKE RANN has vowed to press ahead with constitutional reform.
He says he'll honour a post-election promise to hold a referendum on the future of
the upper house of parliament at the next state poll in 2010.
Mr RANN says that will give voters the opportunity to call for the abolition of the
Legislative Council or its reform .. reducing the terms of councillors from eight to four
years .. and cutting the number of MPs.
He says that will give South Australians the chance to approve the biggest constitutional
reform in Australia since 1922 .. when Queensland abolished its upper house.
